Selikie’s are mythical creatures but feature in Celtic and Viking mythology. In Scottish mythology, selkies or selkie folk meaning "seal folk" are mythological beings capable of therianthropy, changing from seal to human form by shedding their skin, found in folktales and originate from the Northern Isles of Scotland.

The folk-tales frequently revolve around female selkies being coerced into relationships with humans by someone stealing and hiding their sealskin, thus exhibiting the tale motif of the swan maiden type. In the song its the selkie alluring the male into the water like a siren or mermaid

The deep water and seals off Mull inspired this one.
